My ‘Crazy’ Start

It’s been a while since I just threw caution to the wind and tried something new.

I recently took a Crazy Quilt Workshop and started on an 8″ square design that, once embellished, will fold into a nifty little tri-fold case for my needles & embroidery scissors.

This is my pre-sewn design consisting of scraps of velvety, satiny, bold fabrics. It starts with the nubby floral in the center and spirals around. It’s challenging for me to ‘just let it go’ with no squares or triangles, but that’s part of the fun. And I kinda understand a few reason why they call them Crazy Quilts. It took me 5 hours just to place the fabrics for this square. (And I haven’t even started any embroidery stitches.) Yup, I’m certifiable!

Preparing for the SCVQA Quilt Show Spring 2011

A flurry of quilting activity since the beginning of the year has culminated in two entries into a biennial quilt exhibition March 5 & 6.

First, I’ll finish the Shirt Pocket Quilt. Since it’s a pillow-top border, it’s easy enough to smooth it flat on the living room futon for handwork. Besides, I don’t possess a proper quilt frame. I stitched a simple 1” border and quilted stitch-in-the-ditch along each shirt block. This ‘easy’ part took me about 28 hours.

Picking up where I left off: Marin Quilt Retreat 3/13/09

There’s nothing like having three full days to focus on Kreativity!

Earlier this spring, I got the call asking if I could fill in for an attendee who was unable to make the March quilting retreat. Would I be able to swing it last minute? Would I ever!

I have been percolating several projects for the past 2-9 years without scheduling time to complete them. How fabulous to have this offered now!
